Frequently
Asked Questions

My cat is very timid and gets easily stressed with new environments and people, what can be done to help reduce this?

At Cats on Courtenay we use Feliway sprays and diffusers. These are a synthetic version of the nature feline facial pheromone. This is a very simple non intrusive way of helping your cat relax and settle more quickly.

I would encourage you to bring a comfort item from home, eg blanket, item of clothing that your cat likes to sleep on. Again this is another easy way of comforting and reassuring your cat in its new environment.

Travelling to the Cattery I would suggest covering the Cat cage with a small blanket or towel, which will also help make your cat feel more secure.

My cat is a fussy eater, can I bring my own food?

Yes of course. Cats on Courtenay feed a premium cat biscuit which is highly palatable, and for supper cats receive a small delicacy of wet food.

What happens if my Cat becomes sick whilst it is boarding?

Should we have any concerns of the welfare of your cat/cats, we will endeavour to make contact with you .We will seek veterinary attention for your cat if we consider it necessary. If your animal becomes seriously ill and you can’t be contacted the appropriate treatment will be decided on by a veterinarian. The pet’s owner will pay all expenses incurred. At Cats on Courtenay we take pride in delivering the very best of care, the welfare of your cat/cats is our number one concern.

What do I need to bring ?

Please ensure your cat/cats are transported in a secure carry cage. (Cats on Courtenay do have cages available to hire )

Vaccination certificate, this must be current with the last vaccination being received more than 10days prior to your cat’s arrival.

For the protection of all of our feline friends, Cats not holding a current vacc certificate will not be admitted.

Any Medications or special diets that your cat/cats need to receive whilst on vacation with us. You may like to bring a familiar “Comfort Item” blanket, item clothing etc that your Cat sleeps on.

Do you have a discounted rate for long term stays?

Yes we do. All boarders staying for 21days or more receive 10% discount off their balance, excluding during peak times (Dec 15th to Jan 15th)

Are you able to accommodate cats on medications?

Yes, as a qualified Vet nurse I have no issues in medicating and caring for your cats special needs. There is an additional charge of $15, for any medicating which is required to be given outside of our opening hours.
